Peter Vail

Peter Vail is an associate professor in the University Scholars Programme (USP). A/P Vail received a BA in Rhetoric at the University of California, Berkeley; an MS in Linguistics at Georgetown University; and an MA/PhD in Anthropology at Cornell University.

His research interests range from Sociolinguistics (studying language use in everyday life) to a wide variety of cultural and social issues among minority people in Thailand, Laos and Cambodia.

A/P Vail is passionate about undergraduate education, and his adventurous summer modules (e.g. USE2315: Participatory Social Development in Southeast Asia) offer students the opportunity to conduct genuine fieldwork in remote areas of mainland Southeast Asia.

At the USP, A/P Vail teaches in the domains of Writing and Critical Thinking, and Humanities and Social Sciences. He offers the following modules:
